Map sharing requires a signed-in smudgy account, a verified email address, and a friend relationship with the recipient. Open Settings → Account and Settings → Friends to prepare those first.
Select a map you own and choose Share. Pick the recipients, then grant only what they need.
| Permission | Effect |
|---|---|
| edit | They may change the shared map. Their changes affect the same map you see. |
| re-share | They may grant access to other people. Removing this permission also revokes grants they made. |
| copy | They may make an independent map they own. Revoking access later cannot remove copies already made. |
| admin | They may manage access as a deputy. Ownership still belongs to you. |
| include secrets | They receive entities and properties you marked secret. Without it, those details are omitted or redacted. |
Use Preview as recipient before sharing. Check the displayed name, linked areas, room count, secret count, and other redactions from that recipient's point of view.
The lock action audits secret rooms, exits, labels, shapes, and properties in the active area. Mark spoilers or private notes before granting access.
Changing an item to secret after it has already synchronized affects future views; it cannot make a recipient forget data already received. If accidental disclosure matters, revoke access and assume the earlier detail was seen.
Sharing a folder grants the selected people access to every map currently in it and maps added later. This is convenient for a world atlas but has a larger future scope than sharing one area. Review the folder contents and secret policy before choosing Share folder.
Copy to my maps appears on a shared map when its grant permits copying. The new copy is yours and no longer follows the source map.
Duplicate makes another copy of your own map. A common use is a separately maintained version with different secret markings.
Transfer offers ownership to a friend. The map leaves your folder when the recipient accepts, and the recipient becomes the owner. Transfer is not the same as granting admin access; use it only when ownership itself should change.
The sharing pane lists who has access and whether access came directly or through re-sharing. Edit flags for an existing grant or revoke it. Revoking re-share access also removes downstream grants, but independent copies remain with their owners.
Wait for the sync indicator after changing access. If the client is offline, local map edits and cloud access changes have different guarantees; do not promise a recipient immediate access until a successful sync.
